This bowl is about 12" in diamemter and is called "Raven". It is a Tlinget Indian design from the Northwest. There is another raven sand-carved on the opposite side of the bowl and colored in acrylics. The bowl itself is from northwest cedar.
This was a first place and best of show entry in the Quil Ceda wood carving show in the advanced division in 2004.

Kokopelli The dancing flute player and also the Southwest Indian fertility god. Made from birch and 15 X 6". The figures are positive relief on the surface which has been carved away to high-light this feature. Also has a band carved around the middle of the bowl.

This image is of two bowls and a vase turned from Russain olive. The bowls are about 10 to 12" in diamemter and were sand carved, as well as was this 12" tall vase, then dyed black, and resanded until just the soft, recessed grain in the wood is left colored. This leaves a very pronounced texture to the surface and is very well recieved.
